Summary: Poetry is a part of the Language arts curriculum at all levels of a student’s education. This unit is designed to assess and build on prior knowledge and to take the students further into an exploration of an important area of poetry. The unit is designed to target figurative language. In this unit students will explore figurative language and apply what they’ve learned in their writing to make it come alive! I would like to use figurative language to stretch students beyond the levels of recall and identification and into analysis. During the unit students will work in cooperative groups, use learning centers, and participate in whole class discussions, direct instruction and poetry workshops.
